Just in time for Easter, BigIdea has re-released one of their beloved tales, "An Easter Carol."
If you are unfamiliar with Veggie Tales, it's a group of talking vegetables, lead by Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber that bring moral messages to children in a fun and interesting way! They have musical numbers, silly songs, quirky characters and zany plots that kids love! I was first introduced to these guys when I was in high school and they'd play the silly songs at a Wednesday night church function. It's great that my children can enjoy them still to this day!
An Easter Carol highlights old Nebbie K. Nezzer, who is always looking to make a quick buck while someone else slaves away for this to happen. Mr. Nezzer wants to produce mass quanitites of plastic eggs in time for Easter and works his mechanical chickens to the breaking point. Cavis and Millward (Bob and Larry) decide to teach Mr. Nezzer what Easter is really about and that it isn't just bunnies, eggs, toys and candy!
There is also a music box angel character named Hope that is voiced by Grammy Award winning artist Rebecca St. James. The newly released DVD is full of cool bonus features, like karaoke, an easter egg hunt, trivia, games and more! Feel free to check out the An Easter Carol trailer for a preview!
Family Time Factor: I actually enjoy watching Veggie Tales with my kids! The stories are clever, the music is catchy, and it's a pleasant way to spend some time together. I think that it can be enjoyed my pretty much every age group.

First off, we remember the true meaning of Easter with Resurrection Eggs which instructions I found online. As we work on coloring our own eggs, we open and discuss the Resurrection Eggs.
ReplyDeleteWe go to church and then have a picnic with the whole family. Dying easter eggs the night before is always special! utgal2004[at]yahoo[dot]com
ReplyDeleteWe love Veggie Tales! For Easter we usually have an Easter egg hunt in the backyard with extended family. Pretty basic!
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog and just became a follower on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteEvery year on Good Friday we go out for lunch. We go to the same place every year. Then we go to my sister's house and color eggs with my sister and her children. I always buy egg decorating kits after Easter so we usually have a bunch to choose from so we create a variety of eggs. We color at least 5 or 6 dozen eggs. My sister makes some deviled eggs and we all have a great time.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves Veggie Tales. We always have an Easter egg hunt for my daughter just like I had when I was a kid.

We prefer to call it Resurrection Sunday rather than Easter but we do refer to it as the Easter season including Palm Sunday, and Good Friday. Our family gets together after church and has a special Sunday dinner followed by an egg hunt, but no Easter Bunny. Jesus arose not a rabbit.
ReplyDeleteI remember my mother would fill plastic eggs with candy and hide them around the house. They had my initial or my sister's and we only searched for our own.
ReplyDeleteput money in easter eggs and hid them for each child . mverno@roadrunner.com
ReplyDeletemy daughter will take her to an easter egg hunt and in the house will hide some eggs for them also...thanks for the great giveaway
ReplyDeleteI always made up Easter baskets myself and didnt just buy one of those big showy expensive ones at the store! I used the same special baskets each year and picked out candies and small toys, jewelry for the girls, etc.

I remember my Mom used to write out clues, and hide them in different place in the house, and we kids used to run around looking for our next clue till we finally found our baskets, it was great fun, thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid we would go to church as a family and come home to an easter egg hunt !
ReplyDeleteMy kids grew up the exact same way and now its my grandchildren's turn!

ReplyDeletelways focus on Christ and how he died for us so we can live again. Instead of individual easter baskets we put one big one on the kitchen table. We hace given the kids a Veggie Tales video in the basket every year. We also get them bubbles and sidewalk chalk and a little bit of candy. The kids love easter egg hunts too!
ReplyDeletethe kids will enjoy watching this...thanks :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids love the Veggie gang!
ReplyDeleteMy son and nieces all get together to go visit the Easter bunny and then decorate eggs. Thanks for the chance.

After church we get all the kids together at my parents and then grandparents homes to hunt eggs and eat a large dinner! I also put together a basket filled with stuff for my sons!
ReplyDeletekristi2bsb@yahoo.com
I remember the year I went to the community egg hunt. They gave the little kids AND their parents a full five minutes ahead of the older ones. I was about 8 and only found one piece of candy because all the adults saw them and pointed them out to the two and three year olds so they had about 10 times more than the 4-10 year olds. My aunt lived near the park so I went there after the egg hunt, and my lone piece of candy -- a chocolate covered marshmellow easter egg was sat on by my mother (accidently) and I couldn't even eat it because she sat on it so long it was all smushed and gooey. That was a big disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI remember one time entering an egg decorating contest as a kid and winning. I got to pick out a dress from JC Penney's that I wore to visit my grandfather in a nursing home.
ReplyDeleteMy children and I always color Easter eggs together usually the Saturday before. My husband and I also get the girls Easter baskets filled with all kinds of goodies, not too much candy! Then we have a great Easter dinner together. Thanks so much for such a wonderful giveaway!

ReplyDeleteChristina - xristya@rock.com - First of all, I dropped by from Book Room Reviews. Secondly, as a child I grew up Ukrainian-American and learned to make intricate wax-resist Ukrainian Easter eggs which were also very rich in symbolism. I have fond memories of everyone in the family sitting around the round kitchen table my father had made us, sharing beeswax and making Ukrainian eggs!
ReplyDeleteNothing beat dyeing the Easter eggs and ensuing hunt. Please accept my entry. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I remember it being a big deal to go out and get that special dress...complete with a hat, for Easter. I have carried on that tradition, and my daughter now loves our annual Easter dress purchase. This year we have dresses that match, and we are both delighted.
ReplyDeletemsurosey@yahoo.com
Terrific
ReplyDeleteI remember searching for our Easter Baskets was fun. This year I am going to hide Easter eggs for my son for the first time! thanks, justicecw@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI am a follower. thanks, justicecw@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWe keep away from the consumerism (yes we still have Easter baskets) but we don't try to dress showy at church. We have a family meal. Somewhere along the way my father says, "He is risen" and we say "He has risen indeed." just like when he was while pastoring a church.
ReplyDeleteWe go to church and then we eat breakfast at church with our church family. There is an egg hunt in the park for the kids too. We also got to the dog egg hunt which benefits the APA here and the dog just loves it.
ReplyDeleteThere is also dyeing the eggs and finding the easter baskets that the Easter bunny hid.
We go to church and spend the rest of the day with the extended family.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, we would make "Easter nests" in my grandma's yard. We would dig out a small hole, line it with green grass, and decorate it with flowers. Then we would check the nest a couple of hours later and find colored bunny eggs in it!
ReplyDeleteI will be coloring eggs with my toddler grandson this Easter.

We remember the true meaning of Easter-Christ's resurrection, we go to church service and have a fancy dinner.
ReplyDeleteWe always dyed eggs and I would always try the wax thing of drawing designs and redipping in different color dyes. I invariably made a mess but my mom never stopped me from experimenting.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were little, we would have Easter egg hunts, and at the end, we would find our Easter basket! So instead of giving them to us, we had to search for them!

ReplyDeleteWe always have a lot of fun dying eggs.
ReplyDeleteWe don't "do" the Easter bunny, but we do usually go to church (if I'm not stuck at work like today) and dye/hide eggs. I remember fondly as a little girl getting all dressed up for church, finding eggs at Grandma's and then my Grandpa would always peel and eat them! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved getting little chicks for Easter. Unfortunately that was the 60's when they were dyed different colors and they didn't last long. Sorry PETA.
