Veggie Tales- Saint Nicholas: A Story Of Joyful Giving DVD Review and Giveaway ***CLOSED***


As aforementioned, Veggie Tales was one of my daughter's favorite shows a couple years back. In fact, her second birthday cake had a veggie tales picture on it! (Thanks, Dairy Queen!) Now that my son is her age, I like to watch him experience Veggie Tales as well. It has catchy songs, witty conversation and cute stories that teach good morals and values.

Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving features all-stars Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, and tells the story of Saint Nicholas, the world’s greatest giver. This new movie alsointroduces Nicky the Pepper, the first new Veggie Tales character in five years! Bonus features include an original new song by singer-songwriter Matthew West called “Give This Christmas Away.” It is performed by West and Amy Grant.

Family Time Factor: Tolerable by adults, but probably more enjoyed by children 10 and under. (Although they did used to show Veggie Tales clips at this youth group program at church when I was in high school.)

MOTR Grade: B

  1. The most generous thing I've done for someone at Christmas was...

    I was collecting freebies (cat/dog food, dvds, cds, pens, soap, shampoo etc) and also winning some giveaways. I also sent out random emails to companies I never thought would donate to a "person" emailing them. I ended up with 3 huge boxes of hand cream and lip balms!!

    Anyway, my husband and I took all of this down to a local inner city school for the kids, their moms and dads.

    I've never been more proud of myself; and I felt on top of the moon!


    Both hubby and I are on disability pension and can't donate $, but it was a thrill to give all of this away!

  5. The most generous thing that someone has done for me at Christmas was to give our family a large value gift card to WalMart. That was incredible! (We were looking at having a fairly "bleak" Christmas that year.)

  10. My husband and I played Santa to the NICU where my daughter stayed. We asked them for a wish list of items they could use for the family rooms. We asked for donations from friends and family. We had so much to take with us, we had to take an extra family with us to unload. We had a few infant car seat, toys for siblings, crib crosses, blankets, money for bus transportation for moms and dads, and pies for the nurses. It felt so good to be able to give back to my daughter's other family.

  14. This is easy for me to answer, and I'll never forget it. I babysat for a young couple when I was 16 (I am now 40). The mother was also 16, and her husband was 18. Their son was 9 mo when I started. They were so poor that I refused to charge them, but they had too much pride, so I agreed to accept 50 cents an hour. They were as poor as a family could be, but they were so grateful to me that they saved their extra cash for months and bought me a beautiful necklace. Nothing for each other, and just one gift for their son, but they still bought something for me. They taught me more about giving than anyone ever has.

I'm a bargain shopper and I was at a scrapbook crop yesterday and overheard someone saying how rough Christmas was going to be for her trying to get something for her four kids, even though the oldest two understand and how she hates having to take financial documentation to agencies that give gifts. I told her to come home with me for a few minutes. I gave her free reign of my 'bought for pennies' tubs and she left with almost $300 of toys for her four children. I'm hoping to do similar a couple more times before Christmas. I was so happy to help her out!

We always donate food for the pantry (a bags worth every payday), I save up toothpaste and other samples to send to the troops, We also have an adopt a family where we buy for a child that will get nothing for Christmas. It feels good and teaches our kids the true meaning of Christmas is giving not just gettin.

  35. Every single year for the past 5 years or so my son and I get a family from the christmas cheer board to give food and gifts to. I think it teaches my son about giving to others and that there are people out there that need a helping hand once in a while. He loves doing it and feels he did something really, really good

  45. Very similar to Annie1, I collect freebies, drug store deals, and grocery store deals all year long. Then I help distribute them to the 25 neediest families in my low income school. I love working on my "boxes of stuff" all year long!! :)

  49. Today is Thanksgiving and I have been cooking all day yesterday and today and have it ready. I am taking part in our Youth(7th grade-College) sponsored Familes Bless Others. They got names of elderly and needy families in the area from local DHR and others church members who knew of someone who would not have a Thanksgiving dinner. Each teen and their families that signed up and took a name and as a family are going to their home with our dinner. Some will stay and share with then and some just take to them ready to eat. Every one in the family will go to take it to them. The youth leader and his wife and daughter(2)and 5 mo old triplets will all go together. Some will come back home to eat a ham sandwich as they can't afford to cook two dinners. I am taking mine to a elderly couple not able to do much cooking . I and my granddaughter home from college will stay and visit clean up after the meal and visit and share some of our blessings God gave with them. I am sure the blessing will be ours. Sunday night at youth meeting we that took part will all share with everone else, There are 56 families participating and each family will receive a big turkey or ham with all the trimmings and cakes and pies,
