CSN Stores might be one of the coolest sites... ever!

I was approached awhile back by CSN Stores to do a blog post for them.  I had never heard of them before, but since then I have seen their ads EVERYWHERE!  They have everything from toys to cookware to Dutch Ovens to utensils to appliances... you name it!  My first experience with them was in reviewing a couple Melissa & Doug puppets that I have gotten more use out of than my children, lol.

But the amazing thing that people don't know about CSN Stores is that they have EVERYTHING.  I mean, they might even have kitchen sinks!  And you can probably get all your gift buying done by going to one website!   What could be better than that?  (Besides not having to buy presents at all.)

Check out CSN Stores and I dare you not to purchase anything... okay, so you're as broke as I am... then I dare you not to WANT to purchase anything.

Corn Sugar Webinar Information

So two weeks ago I attended my very first webinar. This webinar was sponsored by CornSugar.com and was presented by Resourceful Mommy Media.  John White, PhD president of White Technical Research is an expert in high fructose corn syrup and was very helpful in giving us facts and information.  It was a pretty cool idea and the topic was super informative.  We learned about high fructose corn syrup (hfcs) or corn sugar.  The name "hfcs" has become almost profanity to some people.  As parents we have been told to avoid it at all costs.  I remembered hearing the rule, "if you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't put it in your body."  Well, I can pronounce fructose, but that's only because I've heard it so many times.

Table sugar and high fructose corn syrup “have the same exact effect on obesity and diabetes and on heart disease. It’s not that one is better.”  "Replacing HFCS with sucrose will not reduce obesity or improve health; they are essentially the same."  Don't fact quote me on this, but I think sucrose is what's in table sugar and stuff...

The biggest thing I learned from this webinar is that hfcs is not really as bad as I'd thought.  It is not more fattening, it is not any more unhealthy than other sugars.  The reason that it is so widely used is that corn syrup is much easier to mix into foods than regular sugar because it is already in liquid form.  Can sugar is in solid form and the extra step of having to turn it into a liquid must be utilized when company's are making their products.

After the webinar, I went onto Twitter and started posting some of the stuff I learned.  Then people started getting irate with me and said that I am being mislead by big corporations.  Well, I don't know.  I still feel the same way as I did before.  Everything in moderation.  I try not to eat too much unhealthy sugary junk anyway.  Would I eat something with hfcs?  Sure.  Would I give it to my kids?  Sure.  I'm not gonna hook it into an IV and feed it directly into our veins, so I'm not too worried about it right now.

Any thoughts?  I'd love to hear what you're reaction is and what you've heard about hfcs.

Max and Ruby: Everybunny Loves Winter DVD Review

A thousand OMG's on this one!  My son.  My cutesy putesy little bubba boy. LOVES. Max. and. Ruby!!!  I kid you  not, no how, none the way.   So, when I got offered this to review, first, I did cartwheels down the road for two blocks.  Then I passed out.  Next, I came to and shrieked like a banshee.

Okay, so none of that happened, but it was exciting!

Max & Ruby is about an older sister and her little brother- much like my kids, only these are rabbits... with no parents apparently.  Ruby is constantly trying to keep Max on the straight and narrow, but Max ends up helping Ruby or teaching her lessons.  This particular DVD features these adorable siblings making their way through winter. They have fun, Max annoys Ruby and cuteness ensues.

Ruby’s Snowbunny / Ruby’s Snowflake / Duck Duck Goose
Ruby’s Snowbunny
Max wants to zoom down the hill on his “Sled!” but Ruby is intent on making a huge snowbunny and she needs Max’s help. When it turns out they’ve built the snowbunny at the bottom of Rocket Run, the only way to get the snowbunny safely out of the way is by using Max’s “Sled!”

Ruby’s Snowflake
Grandma and Ruby have made three snowflake-shaped cookies and now Ruby wants to surprise her by decorating them all exactly the same. Max wants to sample his “Snowflake!” right away.  When Max tries to get a cookie, he causes Ruby to spill sprinkles and icing so all of the cookies are decorated differently. Ruby’s upset, but when Grandma comes, she points out that her cookies are perfect – they’re all different, just like each and every “Snowflake!”

Duck Duck Goose
Max wants to play “Duck Duck Goose!” with the girls, but they have to find 5 winter birds for their Bunny Scout badge. When the girls have only found 3 birds, they discover that Max has lured the last 2 kinds of birds – “Duck Duck Goose.”

Ruby’s Gingerbread House / Max’s Christmas Pass / Max’s New YearRuby’s Gingerbread HouseRuby and Louise want to make a perfect gingerbread house for Grandma for Christmas.  Max is intrigued of course by all of the “Candy!” It’s going fine except that the girls can’t get the walls to stick, and finally the thing that’ll make them stick is the addition of Max’s favorite “Candy!”

Max’s Christmas PassChristmas is over and it’s time to take the decorations down. Ruby is sad but realistic. Max doesn’t want the feeling to end, so he confiscates the Christmas ornaments and creates a makeshift Christmas tree so it can still be “Christmas!”

Max’s New YearIt’s New Year’s Eve and Grandma has invited Max & Ruby to stay with her and watch the new year come in. Ruby is so concerned with staying awake that she contrives all kinds of games for them to play, and in the end both she and Grandma are fast asleep by the time the clock strikes midnight, leaving Max alone to wake them up with “Happy New Year!"

Ruby’s Horn of Plenty / Max’s Big Kick / Max Says GoodbyeRuby’s Horn of PlentyMr. & Mrs. Huffington ask Ruby to keep Baby Huffington happy while they set up their picnic in the park. Max wants to be “Super Bunny!” Ruby thinks Baby H might want to nap so she tells Max he’ll have to take off his cape and play something else. But when Baby H gets fussy, the thing he really wants is that cape and “Super Bunny!”

Max’s Big KickThe girls are trying to perfect their synchronized swimming routine. Max wants to play with all of his toys that “Float!” Of course his toys always get in their way, but Max ends up providing the girls with the big finish they were looking for, with the help of his “Float!”

Max Says GoodbyeRuby tells Max they’re going to spend the whole entire day playing at Louise’s house, but Max can only take a few toys. So he decides to say “Goodbye” to all of the toys he won’t see for the whole day. When Ruby finally gets Max out of the door, they run into Grandma, who wants to play pirates with them. Ruby explains that they’re going to Louise’s, but when she tries to lead Max away, he takes Grandma’s hand and has one word for Ruby: “Goodbye!”

Max’s Balloon Buddies / Ruby’s Penny Carnival / Ruby’s Big WinMax’s Balloon BuddiesRuby can't wait to see all of the gorgeous flowers at the Flower Festival, but first Max sees Mr. Huffington making balloon animals, and he wants a "Balloon!" A series of accidents causes Max's balloons to burst, so they have to keep returning to Mr. Huffington. By the time they finally get to the flowers, the festival is closing, so Ruby thinks she won't see any gorgeous flowers, until Max gets Mr. H to make a beautiful flower out of a "Balloon!"

Ruby’s Penny CarnivalRuby, Louise and Valerie are setting up a penny carnival in the backyard to earn money for a Bunny Scout field trip. Max keeps getting in the way with his monster mask, toys, bats and spiders and other things that are “Scary!” Ruby asks Max to get his icky toys out of the way, but when the carnival gets going, the biggest line-up is for the monster house that Max created, because everybunny loves things that are “Scary!”
Ruby’s Big WinMax and Ruby are at the Fun Fair, and Ruby wants to win the basketball toss, because the prize is a goldfish. Max tries other games and he always manages to “Win!” different prizes.  When Ruby finally wins the goldfish, Max has won everything she needs to give it a nice home.

Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam Blu-ray/DVD Combo Review

Raise your hand if you'd survive never hearing the words "Jonas Brothers" again?  *notice my hand is raised*  Well, also notice the title is "The FINAL Jam."  Music to my ears, lol.

My almost-five year old has only recently begun watching non-cartoon shows.  Her favorite is iCarly.  So, I thought she might like this movie.  We started watching it together and I figured she'd like it because of the music.  Unfortunately, it was not a hit for either of us.  She got bored, I got nauseous, this was by no stretch of the imagination as good as the likes of High School Musical.  It was 3 guys who couldn't act their way out of a paper sack and Demi Lovato, who is adorable, but should never hook her wagon to these guys again.

The acting was cheesy, the music fell flat and I will never get that 104 minutes of my life back.

The plot (for those still interested) bring Mitchie and her guy friends back to Camp Rock for another summer of rocking out.  Unfortunately they have some competition in a new camp nearby that is threatening Camp Rock's All-Star status.  Man, whatever will they do?!?!?!  And will their hair stay in place the whole time?  I know, but now you have to find out for yourself.

Family Time Factor: maybe tween girls might like it.

Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue Blu-Ray Review

Spell it with me now... Tinker... Bell... Tinker Bell... not Tinkerbell, lol. Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way (I seem to never be able to remember it myself) let's move on!

My daughter is in love with Tinker Bell. Her first Halloween, she chose to dress up as Tinker Bell. Last year she opted to go as one of Tinker Bell's friends (whichever wears purple- you got me.) And just in time, once again, Disney has released Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, an all new adventure that has Tink meeting her very first human. (Is it just a coincidence they coincide it with Halloween? Hmmmmm...)

"What would you do if you met a fairy? Witness the historic moment when Tinker Bell first meets a human being, and it’s not who you think.

Years before meeting Wendy and the Lost Boys, Tinker Bell met Lizzy, a little girl with a steadfast belief in the power of pixie dust and the magic land of fairies. During the fairies’ summer visit to the flowering meadows of England, two very different worlds unite for the first time and Tink develops a special bond with a curious child in need of a friend. As her fellow fairies launch a daring rescue, Tinker Bell takes a huge risk, putting her own safety and the future of all fairykind in jeopardy.

Experience Disney’s astonishing all-new movie about the true power of faith and friendship. Bursting with excitement and imagination, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue is magical entertainment for the whole family. You might even learn to fly."

And of course you know my opinion on this movie, but I'll remind those that might not know- if it makes my kids happy, it makes me happy! And my daughter LOVE LOVE LOVES Tinker Bell. My son, not so thrilled and at almost 3, I often hear him object to his sister's choice of movie, such as, "No BARBIE!" But, I've watched it with my daughter and it is definitely fun! I'd like to think men would watch it with their daughters as well, but I won't give them that much credit.

Family Time Factor: Can be enjoyed by all, but more likely girls who aren't bitter about life yet, lol.

Melissa & Doug Play Kitchen Review & Giveaway!!!

GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA ALERT!!!!

As I've mentioned before, I'm a HUGE fan of Melissa & Doug.  Originally I was just super impressed by the quality of the puzzles.  They are a sturdy wood.  Well, I soon started to realize all the awesome toys they had besides puzzles!  For instance, we have a sandwich set, a cookie set, a pizza set to name a few.  They are very original and are also made of wood.  My kids love them!  Well, I had the opportunity to review a Melissa & Doug Play Kitchen and I can tell you, the excitement was overwhelming.  When I found out I was approved, I was so giddy I had to be sedated.

Well, the big day came and it arrived in the mail.  I had to start working on it immediately. So I worked on it.

And worked on it...

And worked on it...

And four hours later, I was done!!!

Yep, that's right, it took me FOUR HOURS to put together.  I worked on it non-stop all by myself.  The directions were easy to understand, it was just really time consuming.  Was it worth it?  YOU BET!  My kids have played with it every single day since I put it together.  It's adorable and very interactive.  The over opens, the microwave, the cabinet, the refrigerator, the freezer.  It's super cute and we all love it.  Plus, it's a sturdy, thick wood and I have no doubt it will last for years!  Now all my children will have jealous friends.

My Temperament

Hey all!  Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  Between school and work and family,  I have been super busy!

I wanted to share something from class today.  We were asked to take this really good temperament test through the Keirsey Institute.  (If you want to google it, try "keirsey temperament sorter- II")  Mine was so spot on it was amazing!  I was reading it and I thought- I need to share this with everyone so maybe they will understand me better.  So here's my result:

ARTISAN

Artisans are the temperament with a natural ability to excel in any of the arts, not only the fine arts such as painting and sculpting,  or the performing arts such as music, theater, and dance, but also the athletic, military, political, mechanical, and industrial arts as well as the "art of the deal" in business.

Artisans are most at home in the real world of solid objects that can be made and manipulated, and of real-life events that can be experienced in the here and now.  Artisans have exceptionally keen senses, and love working with their hands.  They seem right at home with tools, instruments and vehicles of all kinds, and their actions are usually aimed at getting them where they want to go, and as quickly as possible.  Thus Artisans will strike off boldly down roads that others might consider risky or impossible, doing whatever it takes, rules or no rules, to accomplish their goals.  This devil-may-care attitude also gives the Artisans a winning way with people, and they are often irresistibly charming with family, friends and co-workers.

Artisans want to be where the action is; they seek out adventure and show a constant hunger for pleasure and stimulation.  They believe that variety is the spice of life and that doing things that aren't fun or exciting is a waste of time.  Artisans are impulsive, adaptable, competitive and believe the next throw of the dice will be the lucky one.  They can also be generous to a fault, always ready to share with their friends from the bounty of life.  Above all, Artisans need to be free to do what they wish when they wish.  They resist being tied or bound or confined or obligated; they would rather not wait, or save, or store, or live for tomorrow.  In the Artisan view, today must be enjoyed for tomorrow may never come.

Artisans at work seek to make an impact upon the organizations where they work and upon society at large.  Their alertness to current realities, the joy they take in variation and their tendency to follow their instincts to do "what works" makes them good troubleshooters and negotiators, talented performers and craftspeople and excellent leaders in all kinds of emergencies and chaotic situations.

Even at work, your motto could be, "Let me entertain you.  Let me make you smile."  In fact, bringing playfulness to situations can be one of your greatest contributions on the job.  In your ideal job, you have the opportunity to apply your talent for performing and improvising communications so that they appeal to the individuals or groups of people in your environment.  Because of your gift or words your ideal position might include tasks that allow you to apply your communications talent for the good of the organization.

Well, what do you think?  If you know me, do you think this fits me?  Does this fit any of you?  If you choose to take the test, tell me your result and if you think it was fitting!

How Rocket Learned to Read Book Review

How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills is a super cute book that is perfect for this time of year!  My daughter just started preschool and this is about a puppy that never thought about school or learning to read (I don't think most puppies do) but with the help of a teacher bird, realized what fun it is to read and learn how to spell!

It is perfect for preschoolers and kindergartners because it spells out small words and is interactive so that you can teach YOUR kids to read alongside Rocket.

I thought it was super adorable and will be one of our favorites!!
